Tu Rinsche, Director, Social Responsibility; Marriott International Inc.
Tu Rinsche is passionate about leveraging social innovations that help people live better and more sustainably. She has over 15 years of experience developing and managing social impact programs and is a human rights policy expert. In her current role as Director, Social Impact and Global Responsibility at Marriott International, Tu leads global human rights issues across a portfolio of 30 unique brands. She lends her expertise and leadership to drive Marriott's core value in promoting ethical conduct by advancing human rights within business policies and operations. She also oversees The Ritz-Carlton social and environmental responsibility program, Community Footprints. She guides a team of 125+ on-property CSR leaders globally to successfully implement their community engagement strategies in support of The Ritz-Carlton engagement in Impact 2030, a UN endorsed initiative that promotes corporate volunteerism to support the Sustainable Development Goals.
Previously, she worked on human rights issues at The Walt Disney Company, developing and leading a multi-million dollar social innovation fund that supports human rights projects in promoting ethical sourcing, particularly within the consumer products industry. At the U.S. Department of State, she focused on policy and partnership development to address global forced and child labor, serving as the lead on child soldier and cocoa labor issues, as well as corporate social responsibility issues in Africa for the Human Rights Bureau. She served as a W.A.S.H. volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Mauritania and promoted awareness-raising campaigns focused on preventable disease and community engagement. Tu's introduction into human rights started 20 years ago with Amnesty International as a volunteer human rights teacher in Washington, DC. She earned her Master's in International Affairs and Security Policy from Columbia University and Bachelor's in International Affairs and Economics from the George Washington University.
